A love-love relationship
October 26, 2008
I’ve discovered the following about myself: I love setting goals and reaching them. I love the adrenaline rush that comes along with finding an elegant solution to a complicated problem. I love watching my business grow each year and analyzing what I did well and what I can do better next year. Oh, and I love making lots of money. Come on, who doesn’t? (rhetorical question)
I’m reaching a stage in my life – perhaps it is coinciding with becoming a parent, perhaps it’s the recent economic turmoil - where self-gratification isn’t good enough. I’ve had a strong desire lately to give back, make a difference, support a cause, CREATE a cause. I see so much need for altruism out there - at home and abroad.
So here’s my question: Can Altruism and Capitalism co-exist? I feel strongly that there must be some perfect balance that can create a synergistic covergence of growth and giving back. If that perfect balance is found, can growth of business support increased giving, and increased giving support growth of business?
I’m here to explore this idea and try to find that perfect balance.
